‘Urgent meeting’ sought with Iarnród Éireann to discuss Waterford to Wexford train line
Waterford City and County Council have sought an urgent meeting with the Chief Executive of Iarnród Éireann to discuss the old Waterford to Rosslare railway line.
Sine closing permanently in 2010, there has been consistent calls to reestablish a train service on the line.
It had previously been mooted as a new greenway route, however the project has since fallen off the radar.
There was anger and disappointment across the southeast region late last year when a report published by the Department of Transport made no mention of the train line re-opening.
Speaking on the issue last week, Cllr Declan Barry asked for updates on a meeting that was due to take place between Waterford City & County Council and Iarnród Éireann.
In response to Cllr Barry’s query, Chief Executive of the Council, Sean McKeown, confirmed that an “urgent” meeting has been sought with Chief Executive of Iarnród Éireann, Mary Considine.
Mr. McKeown said that the Council are still awaiting a date for the meeting.
