Tramore locals 'stunned' by scale of rubbish left after hot weather

Some of the mess left behind.
Scores of people took to Tramore during the recent spell of sunshine and high temperatures.
Sadly, more than a few visitors left their rubbish strewn across the parks, beach and greenery.
At the recent Metro meeting, Councillor Eamon Quinlan (Fianna Fáil) spoke about the large amount of rubbish left all over Tramore.
He said: "There was a lot of vans and people in cars parked up there over the weekend, starting fires to cook food, defecating, throwing rubbish over walls into people.
"Locals are requesting that we would put down wooden stakes like we have around the boating lake and around Riverstown area green to stop people from parking in there and in camping over the weekend and the good summer that we have so far."
Cllr Quinlan said that locals were 'stunned' at the scale of rubbish in Tramore.
He later stated: "A pristine area, that the Council and the Tramore Tidy Towns have put so much work into its presentation, was left in a desperate state. Regular work vans, cars, etc. pulled up on the area. As such, there were no toilets available for use.
"The party atmosphere that they had there was intimidating to locals, a number of which confronted the some of the squatters. I understand that both the Council and the Gardai are pointing fingers at each other and that is simply not good enough. We are meant to work together, not try and saddle the other with the responsibility.”
Councillor Lola O'Sullivan (Fine Gael) took a moment to thank all the people who helped clean up Tramore: "I want to thank all our staff, particularly in Tramore, who did some incredible work during the very hot weather."
She continued: "The town was inundated with people. Also the lifeguards, it's not an easy job. There was a lot of people on the beach, it was very, very difficult to manage a lot of antisocial behaviour, a lot of drinking on the beach, and they managed to keep Tramore safe."
