Three people were arrested following a €4 million drugs seizure in the south east.

As part of an intelligence-led operation, over €4 million in suspected cocaine was seized and three people arrested on Wednesday, December 17, in the Eastern Region.

A spokesperson for the Gardai said as part of Operation Tara and ongoing investigations targeting organised crime activity an operation was put in place with personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau and the Revenue Customs Service.

"This operation involved searches of a business premises in Co. Kildare and residential addresses in Co. Wexford, supported by personnel from the Eastern Region," said the spokesperson.

The searches resulted in the seizure of a total of 58kg of suspected cocaine, with an estimated value of €4,060,000 (subject to analysis).

Two males, aged in their 30s and 40s, and one female in her 40s, were arrested pursuant to Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 in relation to facilitating and enhancing drug trafficking activities for an organised crime group.

The three arrested are currently detained pursuant to the provisions of Section 50 of Criminal Justice Act 2007 at Garda Stations in Kildare and Dublin.

The drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
