Publican Garreth McCarthy has been confirmed as the new owner of The Holy Cross in Butlerstown, following the retirement of long-term proprietors Bobby and Eileen Bohill in 2024 after 30 years of business.

Mr McCarthy is the proprietor of Uisce Beatha, Zanzibar, Adega Wine Bar and Brady’s bar as well as the owner of GMC Auctioneers.

The site encompasses .32 hectares of land, and has 150 parking spaces with a small al fresco beer garden. The asking price for the site was initially held at €700,000.

Bobby Bohill spoke to the Waterford News & Star’s Darragh Murphy last year.

“I should have retired about 10 years ago, but the time wasn’t right, and we loved working here,” Mr Bohill said. “30 years is a lifetime.”
