Two votes of congratulations were passed for Waterford City athletes at the February sitting of the Metropolitan District Council.

Cllr Frank Quinlan proposed a vote of congratulations to David McGlynn, who ran a marathon in Barcelona recently.

"He ran a marathon in one hour and two minutes, which is phenomenal for an athlete in Waterford," said Cllr Quinlan.

Cllr Seamus Ryan congratulated Michael Reilly, a boxer with St Paul's Boxing Club who won his sixth All-Ireland title.

"An excellent talent, who was recently picked for the Ireland boxing team in Wales," said Cllr Ryan.

Mayor Joe Kelly said that was excellent and a "great achievement."
