Suspicion of sewage in Waterford river

There have been reports of raw sewage entering the Clodiagh river

There have been reports of raw sewage entering the Clodiagh river in the village of Clonea-Power.

That is according to Cllr Declan Clune, who said this week he has been receiving concerns from locals in the area regarding the issue.

Cllr Clune asked during this month’s meeting of the Comeragh Municipal District that Waterford Council’s environment department attempt to contact Uisce Eireann to clarify the matter.

He said: “Surely we would as an environment department have some indication or report from Uisce Eireann if there was any suspicion of raw sewage being dumped into the river in Clonea-Power.

Cllr Clune added that with the recent spell of good weather there is a concern that children have been swimming in the impacted waterways: “Theres a downstream effect because that river comes down through Portlaw, through Curraghmore etcetera and there’s a lot of kids particularly with the good weather swimming in it."
