Onlookers gathered along Waterford's quayside on Wednesday to witness a moment in history - the installation of the first span of the Sustainable Transport Bridge. The magnificent Hebo Lift crane slowly and precisely moved the span into position over the River Suir, where for months preparation work had been underway on the bridge infrastructure on the river bed.

We show here the stunning drone footage, commissioned by Waterford City and County Council, to capture the arrival of the Hebo crane and bridge spans to Waterford.

The lifting of the bridge spans is being carried out over four days as follows:

• Wednesday, May 21st – North Main Span (c.65m in length)

• Thursday, May 22nd – South Main Span (c.65m in length)

• Friday, May 23rd – North Approach span (c. 35m in length)

• Saturday, May 24th – South Approach span (c.35m in length)
