Met Éireann has issued a status yellow snow-ice warning for Waterford on Saturday and Sunday, January 4 and 5.

The national forecaster has warned that sleet and snow should be expected with snowfall accumulations likely across Waterford and many of the coastal counties, including much of Leinster, as well as Clare and Limerick.

Met Éireann has warned that the weather is likely to cause hazardous travelling conditions due to poor visibility and travel disruptions. The status yellow warning is in place from 5pm tomorrow, Saturday, until 5pm Sunday.

Around Waterford, a status orange snow-ice warning is in place in Kilkenny and Tipperary, with Met Éireann warning that 'significant snowfall accumulations' are expected in much of the midlands as well.

Very difficult travelling conditions are expected to be caused by poor visibility and likely delays to public transport; air, rail and bus services are likely to be impacted.

Met Eireann has warned that difficult conditions underfoot are forecast with warnings that the weather conditions could result in animal welfare issues.
