Sinnotts in Waterford City

Plans to construct student accommodation on John Street and Manor Street have been approved following inspection from An Bord Pleanala.

The subject site is located at the corner/junction of John Street and Manor Street in Waterford City. The majority of the location is occupied by Sinnott’s Bar and Nightclub.

The approved plans include provision for the partial demolition of existing vacant derelict structures at 29 and 30 John Street and the construction of new three storey buildings to amalgamate with the existing Sinnott’s property and numbers 27, 28, 31, rear of 31A and 32 John Street.

Thirty-eight student accommodation units will be provided.

Following the submission of the plans by the Causeway Group to Waterford Council last year, an appeal was lodged by Waterford & South Tipperary Community Youth Service (WSTCYS).

Concerns were raised over the inclusion of fire exit doors which would open directly onto the WSTCYS car park. WSTCYS outlined that they intend to build a bicycle shed in this area and the emergency exit will be compromised.

Following inspection, An Bord Pleanála inspectors advised that planning permission be granted, subject to 17 conditions.
