Significant increase in level of homelessness in County Waterford this year

There were 109 adults in Waterford accessing emergency accommodation during the week of September 23 to 29.
The most recent report from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, outlines that there were 109 adults in Waterford accessing emergency accommodation during the week of September 23 to 29.
This figure was 28 people more than September 2023.
Carlow registered 45 adults, Wexford 64 adults, and Tipperary 68 adults. Kilkenny had the lowest in the region, with 40.
In the South East, a total of 326 adults were in emergency accommodation, with the region accounting for 3 per cent of Ireland’s total amount.
Across the country the figure was 10,199 adults total, which was an increase of 1,276 since a year prior in September 2023.
Commenting on the reports, the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien, said: “I understand and appreciate that this rise can be hard to understand in the face of record social homes being delivered and despite the extraordinary progress being made."
