SETU Xcelerate Centre gets new interim manager

Dr Karl Haslam has joined South East Technological University (SETU) as Interim Manager of the university's Xcelerate Centre, on the Carriganore campus in the city.

In an online statement the university welcomed Mr Haslam (BSc, MPhil, MBA, PhD), to his new appointment, noting the wealth of experience he brings to the role.

The third level institution noted: "Karl has extensive experience in management, innovation and technically focused roles across the healthcare, life science and technology sectors."

Mr Haslam also acts as an external examiner at Technological University Dublin, for biomolecular science, in the university's School of Biological, Health and Sports Sciences.

He is also the author of over 50 peer-reviewed publications.

Commenting on his new position he expressed excitement at the opportunity.

"I'm really excited to help ambitious entrepreneurs and innovative businesses realise their growth potential," he said.

Dr Haslam spent many years in the public health sector as a Clinical Scientist at St James’s Hospital in Dublin.

Following that he moved into the start-up space. 

He went on to work with cutting-edge, deep-tech companies focused on discovering and developing new therapies for underserved patient groups, using biological data and informatics/AI-driven analysis. 

A SETU spokesperson said in the online statement that over time, 'Karl transitioned into senior management roles, leading teams, functions, and companies to successfully deliver on strategic business objectives'.

Commenting on his appointment, he said: "I'm excited to be part of the Xcelerate Centre, where I can leverage my experience in the public, private, academic and start-up sectors to help ambitious entrepreneurs and innovative businesses realise their growth potential."
