SETU Waterford campuses hit by major cyber attack

SETU Waterford campuses have been impacted.
South East Technological University (SETU) experienced a major cybersecurity incident last week, which targeted their IT systems in Waterford.
SETU representatives outlined that the incident was identified at the earliest possible stage and SETU's IT team moved swiftly to safeguard their IT systems.
The relevant Government departments and authorities have been informed of the situation.
An official statement from SETU, which was issued on Friday, November 1, said: "South East Technological University (SETU) has experienced a cybersecurity incident targeting our IT systems
"Currently, there is no evidence to suggest that any data or information has been compromised. However, we continue to monitor the situation closely as investigations are ongoing.
"Our internal IT team is liaising with external cyber security experts to resolve the issue and minimise any potential impact.
"However, staff and students may experience some disruption as we continue to work to resolve the issue."
Additionally, SETU Students' Union President, Mark Dunne provided an update to students on Friday evening, saying that Monday's classes at Waterford had been cancelled as a result of the attack.
"There will be more clarity on the situation on Monday, but as of now they are cancelled," he said, "there is no point being in the college on Monday so I'm told and I can say that with authority from the university. Take it that things are back to normal on Tuesday but we don't know at the moment."
Carlow and Wexford campuses have not been impacted and will operate as normal.
It is understood that gardaí have been working with SETU in the aftermath of the attack.
Further updates are expected this week.
