SETU students team up with Belfast counterparts on art exhibition

Students of Visual Art at SETU have collaborated with students of the Belfast School of Art at Ulster University, for an artistic project that is now on display at The Europa Gallery in Dublin.
The 'Echoes across an Island' exhibition is supported by the European Union and will be exhibited in the gallery until July 16
In a statement, a spokesperson for SETU said 'Echoes Across an Island' came about through a shared process of listening, making, and reflection.
"Working across distance, the students entered into dialogue, exploring how place shapes the ways we see, remember, and belong," said the spokesperson, adding: "Their collaborations trace the often unseen threads that connect communities across Ireland; story, memory, and lived experience."
Collaboration among the students of SETU and Ulster University involved a combination of remote exchanges and in-person workshops.
"These discussions explored the UN Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for engaging with sustainability, place, and responsibility within artistic practice," said the spokesperson.
Artists Rachel Fallon, Susan Hughes, and Hollie Kearns guided workshops that expanded material approaches and encouraged experimentation.
Students then divided into groups- Pink, Yellow, White, Green, and Blue with each developing distinct projects that evolved into five artworks.
The student’s responses were varied and thoughtful, from reflections on birthdays and cultural difference to conversations over tea captured through cyanotype, maps, tarot cards, and murals.
"Together, the works offer a collective exploration of connection, difference, and shared experience," said the spokesperson.
