Councillors discuss water supply and pressure issues
Serious water issues in west Waterford

Households in west Waterford have been facing water issues, and councillors are pleading with Uisce Eireann to finally address the problem.

Speaking on the Tinnock Water Supply, Cllr Tom Cronin and Cllr Pat Nugent said that residents are unable to shower or wash clothes due to ongoing water pressure issues.

“There is absolutely no water pressure there” Cllr Nugent said.

“There is 40,000 litres coming from the pump in 24 hours, but where it’s going, I just don’t know. We need an answer.”

Cllr Cronin said the pump does appear to be supplying water, however the water is not getting to houses.

“It’s obvious that there’s a leak somewhere and it’s not good enough” he said.

“I know one particular woman who has to bring her kids to her parent’s house to shower. There's another man who cant wash his clothes because the washing machine doesn’t have enough pressure” he added.

During a meeting of Waterford City and County Council last week, the councillors once again raised the issue with senior Council staff, who said that unfortunately the local authority does not have the remit to sort the issue and Uisce Eireann are solely responsible.

Across the city and county, councillors have become increasingly vocal on Uisce Eireann's failure to manage and communicate on such issues.

In recent weeks, a motion was passed which called on the national water body to be held to greater accountability.
