Second teenager dies following e-scooter accident in Waterford

A second teenager involved in an accident between an e-scooter and a bus in Waterford City has passed away from his injuries.
Gardaí attended the scene of the accident which occurred on the Cork Road, near the South East Technological University (SETU) campus shortly before 2.10am on Thursday, June 27.
One person travelling on the e-scooter, a male youth, believed to be 15 years of age, who was from near where the accident occurred, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A second male youth, also in his teens, who was also travelling on the e-scooter was taken to Waterford University Hospital with serious injuries. However, Gardaí have confirmed that he also passed away from his injuries on Thursday afternoon.
It's believed the second teenager was aged 17. Both teenagers are believed to have been very talented soccer players who played for separate clubs in the city.
A technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators has been completed and the road has re-opened. A Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been assigned to provide support to the families at this time. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Cork Road in Waterford city between 1,45am and 2.15am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
