Lighting works for Waterford City’s People’s Park will begin later this year, it was confirmed at a recent sitting of Waterford City and County Council.
Issues with the public lighting in the People’s Park have been ongoing for the last number of years, Waterford City South Councillor Séamus Ryan said at the September sitting of the Metropolitan Council.
Cllr Ryan first brought the issue to the council’s attention three to four years ago, he said, when asking for an update on public lighting works in the area.
In response to Cllr Ryan’s query, Waterford City and County Council representatives confirmed that works are ongoing on the issue, saying “quite a bit” has been done on public lighting in the park so far this year with construction expected to begin soon.
Both the tender and the tender evaluation have been completed, council officials said, as well as site visits with the appointed design and construction contractors.
Construction is expected to begin in Q4 this year, and may continue until early 2027, elected members were told.
