The broken Rice Bridge railing on the Ferrybank side of the Rice Bridge has finally been repaired following an incident in which a car collided with the bridge two years ago.

Waterford City and County Council made assurances that the repairs to the barriers were "due to be completed in the next four to six weeks" in August last year but the works were only carried out this month.

Following a three-month delay in which the replacement railings were being manufactured and galvanised by the contractor, the decision was made to postpone the works until after Christmas "in order to minimise traffic disruption in the run-up to the Christmas season", the Council said.
