Repeat offender has sentence suspended after series of thefts

Carpaci stole perfume from an Irish Cancer Society Charity shop.

A woman has had her prison sentence suspended for committing multiple thefts throughout Waterford.

Saveta Carpaci (64) appeared at the Waterford District Court of Appeal in late 2025.

Carpaci, of Suir House, Canada Square, committed theft on April 6, 2023, when she stole a bottle of perfume worth €20 from a city pharmacy. On the same date, she stole another bottle of perfume from the Irish Cancer Society Charity shop.

On September 7 that year, she stole €80 worth of meat from Aldi, The Glen. She committed several similar offences and received a sentence totalling 14 months from Waterford District Court.

Defence counsel Ciaran Murphy BL told the court that she stole food because she had to pay her electricity bill and referred to the perfume thefts as "opportunistic".

Mr Murphy said that Carpaci has a series of heart problems and has undergone bypass surgery. He referred to her "favourable" probation report that placed her at a "low-risk" of re-offending. Her appeal was accepted and she entered into a bond.
