Public has month to give feedback on Waterford transport hub entrance design

The North Quays transport hub entrance design.

The public has one more month to give feedback on the design of the North Quays transport hub entrance in Waterford city.

Plans are now being circulated to the public for the southern entrance of the new transport hub, which is being constructed as part of the North Quays development.

The proposed entrance/access point to the hub consists of curved external entrance steps with handrails and balustrades, a passenger lift and an enclosure.

An extended roof canopy structure is planned to cover the passenger lift and upper flight of external steps and to match surface and soffit finishes of the adjacent roof, which is currently under construction as part of the main station building.

Also planned is a new external pedestrian access door from the southern platform area and terraced planters with low-level planting.

Planning reports outline that "the proposed southern entrance will provide the first impression of the urban city centre from the northern approach, and a high-quality design solution has been applied to reflect".

Waterford City and County Council initiated a Part 8 planning process for the new southern entrance to the transport hub at the North Quays SDZ in Ferrybank.

The development is currently open for public consultation.
