Waterford Local Community Safety Partnership (WLCSP) has commenced a public consultation process to inform a mid-life review of the Waterford Community Safety Plan 2023-2028.
A spokesperson for Waterford City & County Council said the review is taking place as the Waterford Local Community Safety Partnership transitions from a pilot to a statutory entity under the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024.
As a part of being a Pilot location, along with Longford and Dublin Inner City North, Waterford LCSP developed and drafted the Waterford Community Safety Plan 2023-2028, after extensive countywide consultation with the public.
The plan developed 89 collaborative actions in response to community feedback to improve and strengthen community safety at a local level.
The current plan is available at https://waterfordcouncil.ie/services/community-and-sport/local-community-safety-partnership/
As part of the process, Waterford’s Community Safety Wardens engaged with communities across the county in recent weeks, including in the 12 local libraries, as well as in village and town centres, shopping centres and at local community events.
"These engagements are providing valuable insights into local safety concerns, priorities and lived experiences," said the spokesperson.
In addition to in-person engagement, members of the public are also invited to share their views through a short online survey, which will feed into the review process and help shape future community safety priorities.
The public can access the survey at https://bit.ly/ourwaterford and all feedback gathered through the consultation process will inform the development of an updated Community Safety Plan.
The local authority spokesperson said the process aims to ensure that the plan reflects the needs and priorities of communities throughout Waterford, supporting a coordinated and evidence-based approach to improving safety and wellbeing.
