The pilot was identified as Bircan Dokuzlar.

The pilot who died in a crash landing near Waterford Airport has been identified as a Turkish father of two. 

Turkish media have identified Bircan Dokuzlar as the pilot who lost his life last Thursday, November 20. 

The Vulcanair P68C plane crashed at about 12.50pm at Lisselan while approaching Waterford Airport. It is understood that the aircraft was flying from Sligo to Beziers, France before experiencing engine trouble 50km off the Irish coast. 

A Gofundme page was been set up in Turkish, English and German to help raise funds for Dokuzlar's loved ones. The page states that Dokuzlar had been working in Germany "to support his family". He was described as an honourable man of integrity who worked tirelessly to support his family. 

The post stated: "This sudden and devastating loss has left his family not only in deep grief but also facing the heavy burden of funeral, burial, international transportation, and the many needs the family now faces without him."

The Air Accident Investigation Unit continue to investigate the crash.
