A very special gig will take place in Waterford City tonight, Saturday, June 13, when local band, Pillarstone, will launch their debut album, 'Mono Lit'.

The launch will take place in Phil Grimes pub in Waterford, with doors opening at 8pm

The special guest will Shane Barry.

Pillarstone is led by two seasoned songwriters and performers in the shape of Paul J Bolger and Alex Soikans and the band's sound offers up an eclectic mix of influences and could best be described as heavy blues with a strong country-rock flavour.

Fans of bands like Blackberry Smoke and Whisky Myers will likely be very much at home with the songs on 'Mono Lit' and in a live setting is where Pillarstone really come into their own and tonight's gig promises to be one of the music highlights of the year.

For fans of Celtic folk, rock, blues, Americana and indie pop tonight's gig will not disappoint.

A special guest appearance from Siobhan Maher Kennedy (Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, River City People) adds Nashville soul to standout track, 'September Sun'. However, she joins a stellar lineup of collaborators such as Killian Browne (Susan O’Neill, Toucan) on piano and keyboards, Fergal Kavanagh on violin, Aileen Mythen (The Remedy Club) on backing vocals and Waterford’s Harmania Indie Choir.

At the beating heart of Pillarstone are bassist Adam Power and drummer John Daly, who together with Bolger and Soikans form the creative nucleus of the project.

The ten original tracks on 'Mono Lit' explore themes of love, resistance, truth, and transformation that shift shape and spirit as they unfold.

The album has just gone live on streaming platforms and is now also available on CD.

The ensemble quietly released two songs in recent months - namely 'September Sun' and 'Fog Of War', with the first official single 'Run Fox Run', released last month.

Pillarstone will launch the album on June 13th in Phil Grimes Pub, Waterford with an extra date added in May in the shape of a listening party in Luca Records, Waterford on May 15th complete with an in-store performance.

Paul and Alex have been performing Paul’s solo songs together around Ireland since 2020 and have filled support and special guest slots in some of Ireland’s premier venues with the likes of Paul Brady, Something Happens, Cry Before Dawn, Mundy and more.

Pillarstone sees them combining their talents to create a fresh take on a familiar sound and style of songwriting.

Dates around the country to be announced.
