Pianoman Gavin returns to the Déise after cruise ship performance career

Watgerford's pianoman, Gavin Burke, has returned to the Déíse after a cruise ship performance career spanning 15 years

Gavin Burke has returned to Waterford to bring his extraordinary musical talent to weddings and special events.

Gavin, a singer and pianist, has spent 15 years captivating audiences aboard cruise ships.

Born and raised in Ferrybank, Waterford, Gavin discovered his passion for music at a young age. He began performing at local venues and played with local bands such as Opus Pocus. Pursuing his dream, Gavin took his talents to the high seas, entertaining thousands of passengers on cruise ships travelling around the world. He has performed on ships travelling from Antarctica to the North Pole.

During his time at sea, Gavin developed a diverse repertoire, covering everything from classic rock and pop hits to West End showtunes. Prior to lockdown, Gavin, son of the late Eddie and Nancy, and his wife decided to ‘drop anchor’ in Waterford and settle down with their baby. His twin brother Michael also performs on the cruise circuit. Gavin is now happy to be back on land performing.

Now back home, Gavin is excited to share his love for music with local couples on their special day. Gavin’s portable baby grand piano accompanies him on his journeys around Ireland to entertain. Within 15 minutes and with no fuss, Gavin can discreetly set up his piano and is ready to perform. From weddings and corporate functions to house parties, the portable piano allows for people to gather around as he performs.

He regularly performs in the Tower Hotel, the Granville Hotel and the Woodlands Hotel, in Waterford. He loves getting to know the regulars and always remembers their favourite songs. To follow his work Gavin can be found on Instagram @gavinthepianoman.
