People in Ardmore village feel there is “no future in their community.”

That is according to West Waterford Councillor Kate O’Mahoney, who raised the issue of the highly anticipated but stalled housing development in the village at the September sitting of the Dungarvan-Lismore District Council.

Cllr O’Mahoney and Cllr Tom Cronin asked if there was any update.

“Locals are getting more and more frustrated by the day. It’s the hot topic in the village. Many were born and raised there, and they see absolutely no future in their own community, said Cllr O’Mahoney.

Senior Executive Officer in the housing department Donal Ó Murchadha said there has been some progress since the last meeting.

He said the project had been delayed by recruitment difficulties but that a staff member has now been reassigned to progress the procurement process.

That person is to begin work in the next few weeks and Mr Ó Murchadha said he would not be able to give a date until that person has time to establish a timeline.

“I suppose it is a significant milestone in progressing the project and we are delighted there are resources to commence it,” said Mr Ó Murchadha.
