Obituary: Tributes paid to Lisduggan's Paddy Walsh
May Paddy’s memory live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Tributes have been paid to Paddy Walsh, who passed away aged 86 on Wednesday, November 12.
Late of Arbor Road, Lisduggan and a native of Morrison’s Road, Waterford City, Paddy was one of the founding members of St. Paul’s Parish.
One of Paddy’s defining traits was his affection for pigeons, garnering the title “Paddy Pigeon”. His daughter Amanda recalled a shed out at the back of their house that acted as a shrine dedicated to his love for the birds.
Paddy attended school at De La Salle College, though he often played truant.
“He wasn’t a lover of school,” Paddy’s daughter Amanda recalled. As a young man he spent his time hunting, one of his great passions.
He worked as a trained butcher at Denny's in Waterford where he met his beloved wife, Betty.
Paddy will be fondly remembered as a community activist. As one of the first to move into Lisduggan, he worked tirelessly towards the betterment of the neighbourhood, cutting the grass in communal areas with his lawnmower.
He worked in collecting pools for the Central Remedial Clinic, earning another colourful nickname - “Paddy Pools.” He was also a proud member of the Irish Wheelchair Association.
He is deeply mourned by his children Pat, Ray, Sandra, Louise, and Amanda; sons-in-law Brendan, Trevor and Will; grandchildren James, Cian, Róisín, Charlie, Liam, Katie, Emily, Sarah, Odhán, Amy, Daisy, and Fintan; great-grandchildren Ruairí and Cillian; his brother Michael; sisters Lily, Nellie, and Stella; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
