Multiple fires tackled and successful mountain rescue
Recently, Waterford fire crews and South Eastern Mountain Rescue teams were both mobilised for separate emergencies, which took place across Waterford city and county.
Both organisations were successful in their respective rescue operations.
On the night of Friday, June 28, Waterford Fire Services tackled two separate gorse fires.
Crews attended to a fire at the Ballinakill River Suir walkway at approximately 8pm.
At 10pm on the same night, fire service crew from Kilmacthomas were called to Tankardstown on the Copper Coast having received reports of a ditch fire in the area.
Both fires were brought under control by the fire crews with the cause currently unknown.
Meanwhile, South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association received a call from An Garda Siochana at 9.35am on June 15 to assist a fallen walker on the Knockmealdowns.
The walker had suffered a pelvic injury and head laceration. A full team call out was issued with a mobile base vehicle, two Land Rovers and the Rockton responding, along with team members in their own vehicles.
The first team members were with the casualty at 11:30am and by 12:40pm the casualty had been evacuated by stretcher to a Land Rover for transfer to a waiting NAS ambulance at the trail head.
The casualty was handed over to the National Ambulance Service and stand down issued at 12:54pm with everyone safely off the hill.
Team members returned to base to start drying out the gear, ready for the next call, which came at 6:37pm.
A request from An Garda Síochána to assist with a lost walker near Mount Melleray. Thankfully the walker turned up safe and sound just as the team was heading out and a succesful operation was finalised.
