‘Minister Lawless needs to apologise for his comments’ on Waterford Airport

Independent Waterford Councillors Donal Barry and David Daniels have this week spoken out against the delay on a decision being made on Waterford Airport.

Cllr Barry said that the project needs to be regarded as "crucial".

“It appears the plans are well read but for some reason, maybe because of an election, a decision has been delayed by Government," he said at a Waterford Metropolitan meeting.

“If Waterford Airport is allowed to fail it will have serious financial consequences for Waterford City and County Council," he said.

Cllr Barry requested that Metropolitan Mayor, Cllr Joe Kelly, "immediately contacts Minister [James] Lawless’ office to request that a decision on the business plan of Waterford Airport is issued immediately and not held back so we know where we stand on this".

Meanwhile, Cllr David Daniels said: “Waterford has consistently been overlooked in investment.”

He also requested an apology from Minister Lawless on his comments about the airport last week, when the Minister compared the business case for the extension of the runway at Waterford Airport to a "pig in a poke".
