The Waterford constituency office of Mental Health Minister Mary Butler TD was vandalised today with a message being graffitied onto the front of the building.

The vandalism of Minister Butler's office, which is located on the quays in Waterford City, is believed to have taken place last night.

"Fix the housing. Time for change. No. homeless, 14,760. Time for change," the vandalised message reads.

In a statement to Waterford News & Star, Minister Butler said, "I was very disappointed to learn Thursday morning that my Waterford City constituency office was targeted overnight with paint."

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that I have had to deal with issues in relation to my personal safety and issues in relation to my constituency offices. However, it will not deter me from doing my job and contesting the General Election in the next few weeks."

Data published by the Department of Housing last Friday shows that homelessness has reached a record high in the country. A total of 14,760 people, including 4,561 children are currently homeless -  increasing from 14,486 people in need of emergency housing in August.
