Man who stole bicycle worth €14,000 from Olympian appears in court
The bike reunited with its owner Ciarán Power in September 2025.
A man has appeared in court in connection with the theft of a bicycle valued at €14,000.
The bike belongs to Ciarán Power, a former professional cyclist from Waterford who competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics.
The Trek Emonda bicycle was stolen from 19 O’Connell Street between 3pm and 7pm on Tuesday, September 16.

In an appeal to the public at the time, the gardaí said: “This is a valuable, sentimental bicycle for the victim and we are pleading to members of the public for any information that may lead to the recovery of the bicycle.”
Thankfully, the bike was recovered by gardaí some days later and reunited with Mr Power.
This week, the man who stole the bike appeared in court.
Craig Cahill (23), of 9 Manor Walk, Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to burglary and possession of stolen property.
The matter was briefly brought to the attention of Judge Kevin Staunton in Waterford District Court, who set a sentencing date for May 19.
Craig Cahill's solicitor said the fact that the bike was recovered will be a “key mitigating” factor in the sentencing.
