Man is jailed for thefts from stores across Waterford city

A 26-year-old man received jail time from the District Court in Waterford last week for a series of theft offences.
The guilty party is Damien Myles (26), who has addresses at 113 Kilcohen Park, Waterford, and 27 Beckett Street, Manchester.
Between dates in 2023 and 2026, Myles committed thefts from retail premises across the city.
From Carraig Donn in City Square Shopping Centre, he stole an assortment of jewellery with a total value of €115.
He is also guilty of stealing alcohol to the value of €342 from Reddy’s Off-Licence in Ballybricken.
He committed theft from Walsh’s Petrol Station, stealing products with a total value of €23.20, and from Centra on John Street, walking away with bottles of alcohol to the value of €74.
From Homesavers, he stole an electric toothbrush and an electric shaver with a total value of €91.
He also pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis whilst in the Convent Hill area of the city in February of this year.
The man has 71 previous convictions, the majority of which were committed in the UK.
55 of his previous convictions are for theft.
He was recently sentenced to three years' imprisonment in the Circuit Criminal Court for a robbery he committed from Londis in St. John’s Park. During this incident, he pointed a knife at the cashier and took approximately €280 in cash.
For the slew of theft offences that came before the District Court last week, Damien Myles was handed an additional prison sentence of 16 months.
This sentence will be backdated to the date when he entered custody in February of this year.
