Man accused of making a false knife-point robbery claim at Waterford District Court
Waterford Courthouse
A man made a false report of having been a victim of a knife-point robbery and claimed a related support payment, Waterford District Court has been told.
Teibor Kobova (29), of Apt 2, Aylesbury Manor, Johnstown Road, Waterford, was before Judge John Cheatle at Waterford District Court charged with making gains or causing loss by deception and making a false report.
For the purposes of jurisdiction, Sergeant Michael Hickey told the court that at 7:50pm on August 12, 2025, the defendant attended Waterford Garda Station and reported that he had been robbed at knifepoint.
It is alleged that he then went to the social welfare office and claimed a payment of €180, which he received because of the assault.
A subsequent investigation found the claim to be false, Sgt Hickey told the court.
Judge Cheatle accepted jurisdiction and put the matter back to February for mention.
