Major wastewater network is completed in Lismore

Critical upgrade works to the wastewater network in Lismore have been completed.

Delivered by Uisce Éireann, the project will provide a more reliable wastewater service and significantly reduce the risk of sewer flooding in the area.

The project began earlier this year with extensive upgrades to the existing underground infrastructure, including the construction of a new surface water outfall pipe. 

These improvements were designed to alleviate sewage spillages during periods of heavy rainfall, particularly along the N72 and at a problematic manhole on the St. Declan’s Walkway route. 

Works were carried out along the N72 from the St. Declan’s Walkway to the Aglish (Lady Louisa Walk) entrance, with additional upgrade works opposite the Lismore House Hotel, in the Lismore Gardens carpark, and at the Ferry Lane Junction.

Following the identification of areas requiring further upgrades, a second phase commenced and concluded at the end of September, which included the installation of 205 metres of new storm sewer, the replacement of two manholes, and the connection of several storm gulleys into the new storm sewer.

Commenting on the completion of works, Paul Harney, Senior Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, said the completion of the works will help support Lismore’s future development. 

"It will benefit the environment and deliver a reliable, sustainable, high-quality service to the people of Lismore and those visiting the town" he added.
