Major housing development greenlit

Planning permission has been granted for a largescale housing development at Deerpark on the Outer Ring Road in Williamstown, County Waterford.

During the planning process, multiple appeals to the development were issued by concerned locals in the Deerpark area.

These submissions cited traffic management issues, inadequate parking, blocking of natural light and various safety concerns.

Other appeals outlined that there are a lack of services in the area to adequately support the population. The lack of education services such as primary schools and post primary schools, healthcare services, playgrounds and public transport were mentioned.

One appeal cites the development’s potential to increase crime in the area, saying: “There has already been incidents of purposeful fire, purposeful damage, intimidation and theft in the current estate. Increasing population will only increase this further.”

The approved development comprises of 79 apartment units located within three apartment blocks.

The first block is a 4-5 storey apartment building incorporating 34 apartment units comprised of 5 one-bed apartment units, 28 two-bed apartment units, and 1 three-bed apartment units.

The second block is a 3-4-storey apartment block incorporating 21 apartment units comprised of 3 one-bed apartment units and 18 two-bed apartment units.

The third block is a 4-storey apartment building incorporating a total of 24 apartment units comprised of 4 one-bed apartment units and 20 two-bed apartment units.

Permission was granted by Waterford City and County Council on October 24.
