The Gardaí in County Waterford stopped a truck driver recently who was holding a mobile phone while driving.

The incident occurred in Kilmeaden and in an online post Waterford Gardaí said the the driver of the vehicle was observed using his mobile phone while driving.

"This offence is classified as one of the Lifesaver offences - meaning that statistics show that the offence is a factor in road traffic collisions," noted the Gardaí.

"The offence is for holding the device, as it significantly contributes to the distraction of the driver, impairing the skills required to drive safely," they added.

The driver was stopped and issued with a Fixed Charge Notice which will result in a fine and penalty points.
