During the recent Piltown District Council meeting, elected members urged locals to attend a crucial upcoming meeting addressing the urgent need for safety upgrades on the N25 Waterford to Glenmore Road.

The meeting will focus on promoting the proposed upgrade of the N25 to a dual carriageway between Waterford and the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy bridge that links Wexford and Kilkenny, and also demanding immediate interim safety improvements to make the current road safer, while awaiting a full upgrade.

It is expected that the meeting will draw a large turnout of concerned locals, alongside local and national politicians.

The meeting takes place on Monday, June 16, at 8pm at the Rhu Glenn Hotel in Slieverue.

Speaking on the importance of the event, Cllr Ger Frisby said last week: “A lot of work has gone into this meeting by the working committee.

“Hopefully there will be a good turnout and a positive discussion and debate, and hopefully those issues and matters will be brought back to the powers that be, both the Minister, the TII and all concerned so that the N25 will be progressed."

Cllr Pat Dunphy added that the N25 has been "a major issue".

“We need approval from the cabinet, simple as that,” he said.

Meanwhile, an organiser behind the public meeting said: "This road has seen far too many accidents, and the community is calling for action to prevent further loss of life. All relevant stakeholders will be in attendance to speak, listen, and answer your questions. Local and national politicians will also be present to hear the concerns of the public and show their support for necessary improvements.

"We urge all residents, commuters, and concerned citizens to attend. Your voice matters - together, we can demand the changes needed to make this road safer for everyone. Let’s take a stand to save lives."
