A number of Jim Gavin posters were still tied to lamp posts this weekend in Waterford City, on South Parade, near the People's Park.

According to the Litter Pollution Act of 1997, posters must be taken down within seven days of polling day.

This means all posters should have been taken down by October 31st.

These posters are now subject to an on-the-spot litter fine of €150.

It was assumed by local Fianna Fáil Councillor John O'Leary that if a fine is issued, it will be Jim Gavin who has to pay it, not Fianna Fáil.

Jim Gavin was one of three presidential candidates for this year's election but he withdrew from the election in early October.

His name still appeared on the ballot.
