The Irish Red Cross Volunteer Awards have recognised the people of the Portlaw branch for their great work.

The Portlaw branch has been nominated for the prestigious title of Branch of the Year, a glowing commendation of their fantastic work within the community.

Bernie O'Sullivan, the veritable backbone of the branch since 2011, has been nominated for Volunteer of the Year Award.

Her work as Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Area Committee Chair has been integral to the Portlaw branch's achievements.

Current Chairperson Doreen McNamee has also been nominated for Volunteer for the Year, in recognition for her emotional and practical support to the entire team, as well as her operational duties.

Fina Eccleston and Sarah Keane have been nominated for the Youth Volunteer of the Year award, in recognition of their activities and dedication to learning life-saving skills.

Secretary General of the Irish Red Cross said :"All of these finalists from Waterford are amazing individuals and contribute so much and a huge amount of their free time helping others in the public and out and about in their communities through their selfless work for the Irish Red Cross.

"They all deserve so much credit and we congratulate them for getting to the final stages of the Irish Red Cross Volunteer Awards."

This year’s award ceremony will take place in Croke Park on Saturday, November 23.
