The bins were stolen in Tramore and Kilcohan

Gardaí are appealing for information on two incidents of criminal damage where wheelie bins were stolen and set on fire in Waterford.

The first incident happened at Summerhill Centre in Tramore on September 27, around 8:30pm.

The bins were taken from the area and set alight.

Gardai say they have obtained CCTV of the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tramore Garda Station.

The second incident happened in Avondale, in the Kilcohan area of Waterford city on September 27 at around midday.

The bins were taken from a house.

A spokesperson for the gardaí said: “Given the issue with fires at this time of the year, we would ask people to report any stockpiling of items. This can be reported to the County Council or AGS.”

Gardaí are also reminding the public that the annual Halloween operation, Operation Tombola, is ongoing.

This means there will be extra patrols across the city and county to combat the sale and purchase of illegal fireworks.

“And a reminder that the sale, possession or use of fireworks in this country is illegal. It is also illegal to possess any fireworks that may have been legally purchased outside of the jurisdiction and then brought into the State and Gardaí will confiscate any fireworks found in the possession of persons, and such persons are also liable to prosecution,” said the garda spokesperson.

The gardaí ask that if you observe a crime being committed, please phone 112/999.

If you have any information, you can also use the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
