IKEA exploring Waterford as a 'location of interest' for expansion

26th April 2019, Dublin, Ireland. IKEA store in Ballymun, Dublin, a Swedish-founded multinational group that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchen appliances and home accessories.

IKEA is exploring opportunities in Munster and Waterford in particular, according to a company spokesperson.

The spokesperson told the Waterford News and Star that IKEA is committed to expanding in Ireland and making their stores more accessible to customers.

“As part of this ongoing commitment, we are currently exploring opportunities to establish a new Plan & Order Point in the Munster region, with Waterford being a location of interest.

“While we are excited about the potential, we are not yet able to confirm an opening date,” said the spokesperson.

Speculation began last week when a listing for store assistants appeared on the job website Indeed.

The listing, which is now no longer available, said the company were hiring staff for a new Planning and Order Point in Waterford, with interviews scheduled for March.

The potential opening in Waterford would be part of an expansion of the Plan and Order Points already underway in the Leinster region and parts of Munster.

“IKEA has already opened several successful Plan & Order Point stores across Ireland, including locations in Naas, Dublin (St. Stephen's Green), Drogheda, Cork, Carlow, and Sligo.

"We will continue to look for opportunities to bring this convenient service to more communities across Ireland,” said the spokesperson.

Plan and Order Points are smaller stores for kitchen bedroom, and living room planning.

While customers can’t take home furniture from these points, they can order for delivery.

Staff at the Planning and Order Points can provide design advice by appointment, or customers have the option of a self-service desk.

IKEA already operate a collection point at the Tesco Superstore in Ballycarnane, Tramore.
