Gardaí in Waterford have issued a warning about bogus callers and rogue traders.
In a post on social media, gardaí say these callers may target vulnerable people or people who live alone.
They advise the public not to open the door to unknown people or those you don’t think have a genuine reason for knocking.
“We ask you to be vigilant when out and about and report suspicious people/ vehicles to us immediately. Please pass this advice on to those who may need a reminder,” said the gardaí.
If the person comes to your door, you should take down a description, their vehicle registration and the direction they are travelling.
Gardaí can be contacted on 999 or 112.
The guards also advise getting a door chain for security and only use service providers you trust.
They say rogue traders and bogus callers might be intimidating or refuse to take no for an answer.
"Keep unexpected callers out. Remember if in doubt, keep them out. Do not open the door. Use a door chain. Look for ID. Use service people you know and trust."
