Forecourts across Waterford have faced increasingly heavy demand as nationwide protests have sparked a wave of panic buying.

Industry figures said that around 40 forecourts across Munster had been forced to turn away business by the afternoon due to exhausted fuel supplies.

Nationwide protests surrounding fuel costs, and calls for Government to make further cuts to excise duty, began on Tuesday, April 7.

Protestors have blocked access to key infrastructural areas across Munster, including the Irving Oil Refinery in Whitegate, Co. Cork and fuel depots at Foynes, Co. Limerick.

Waterford has remained largely unscathed by heavy traffic delays, although protests have caused delays on surrounding thoroughfares like the M9 and N24.
