Having kicked off 2025 with a short warm-up run of shows close to home, followed by a five-week tour in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, Cornwall-based singer-songwriter Sarah McQuaid is coming to Tramore this May.

McQuaid is a renowned folk singer, songwriter and guitarist. known for her rich, capivating voice and intricate guitar work.

The songwriter said that her upcoming show in Waterford is in preparation for the release of her next album.

“I’ve been working hard on writing my next album and it’s been great being able to try out the new material live in concert, during the warm-up tour the reaction from audiences to the new songs was fantastic, lots of whoops and whistles, so I’m looking forward to taking them further afield and maybe adding others as we go along," she said.

“It’s a massive project to undertake, but I’m confident that between touring and crowdfunding I can make it happen," she added.

Born in Spain to a Spanish father and American mother, Sarah grew up in Chicago, touring the US and Canada as a member of The Chicago Children’s Choir.

In the mid-1990s she made her way to Ireland, where she began writing regular music columns and reviews.

Following her move in 2007, to Cornwall, she swiftly struck up a friendship with Zoë Pollock, writer and performer of 1991 UK Top 5 single, 'Sunshine On A Rainy Day'. The two began writing songs for an album, released in 2008 under the band name 'Mama'.

She would later meet with longtime collaborator Martin Stansbury, who produced and engineered her sixth solo album, 'The St Buryan Sessions', recorded live in lockdown.

The album made it onto 'Best of 2021', lists on three continents.
