Have your say on Waterford's new biodiversity plan

The plan, which is Waterford’s second, will guide the council’s work to protect, restore and enhance biodiversity across Waterford over the next five years

Waterford City and County Council is inviting the public to make submissions on the county’s draft Biodiversity Action Plan 2026-2031.

The plan, which is Waterford’s second, will guide the council’s work to protect, restore and enhance biodiversity across Waterford over the next five years.

In a post on social media, the council said: “Waterford is home to a rich variety of habitats, plants and wildlife, from our coastline, rivers and wetlands to woodlands, uplands, farmland, parks and urban green spaces.

“These natural environments play an important role not only in supporting wildlife, but also in our health and wellbeing, water quality, climate resilience and quality of life.”

The plan will also provide a framework for how the council works with communities, landowners, organisations and other stakeholders to help safeguard this natural heritage and support biodiversity.

The consultation is open now until Sunday, September 27.
