Government must deliver for Port of Waterford says MEP

“One such project I believe the next Government must prioritise is the upgrade for Waterford Port," the MEP said.
Sinn Féin MEP for Ireland South Kathleen Funchion has called on the next Government to deliver on the upgrade project for the Port of Waterford.
“It is now inevitable that Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, propped up by Independents, will form the next Government," Ms Funchion said from Brussels.
"Whilst I do not believe this is good news for workers or families, I would still urge the incoming government to deliver the policy changes needed to help those who are struggling and to help our regions develop," the former Carlow–Kilkenny Teachta Dála said.
She also urged the next Government to prioritise the upgrade of Waterford Port: “One such project I believe the next Government must prioritise is the upgrade for Waterford Port."
The MEP for Ireland South said that she met with the management of the Port of Waterford and said it was clear to see their ambition for the region.
"The Port can play a role in helping us meet our climate objectives, and boost economic activity in the region," she said.
“I would therefore urge the next government to finally deliver on the Port of Waterford upgrade so the region can benefit.”
A notable port of commerce in Ireland, Belview was recently the site for more than 2,000 pedigree in-calf Holstein heifers to North Africa aboard the Shorthorn Express by David Clarke Livestock.
"This is the largest shipment of dairy heifers ever to be exported from Ireland," the company said in an online post. "We are proud to be part of this milestone for Irish agriculture. We’d like to thank everyone who made this possible from; the pedigree breeders to our great team of contract rearers, to the veterinary department and to the hauliers who ensured the smooth travel to the boat."
