Gino's closes its doors for the last time

Ginos, Waterford.

It’s the end of an era in Waterford, as local pizzeria and ice cream parlour Ginos has shut its doors after nearly 40 years in business.

Ginos welcomed guests to the much-loved premises for the last time on Sunday, December 8, with the owners saying: “The time has come for us to have our final farewell. This will be the last weekend of Ginos as we know it.

“Grab a favourite pizza and share the memories with us. It is a bittersweet goodbye for us but we shall go out on a high.”

Expressing their thanks to the public for years of frequenting the restaurant, the Dunne family reflected on their years of services, which has stretched across multiple generations.

“The time has now come to say goodbye. There are so many thank yous we must make as over 37 years you make many a friend. An impossible task to thank everyone but we shall try.

“To our amazing and loyal customers, we would’ve been nothing without you! We got to watch families grow and many generations come into us.

“To our past and present staff, thank you for the support you have given us. We have been blessed with the best! Ginos was a family-run business and in such we treated our team like family."

Sarah and Colm, the 2nd generation of the Ginos family, expressed thanks to their parents for allowing them to be part of such an institution.

“What we have learned will stand to us for years to come,” they said.

The family added: “To everyone else we have met along the way, from suppliers to fellow restaurateurs, thank you for your knowledge and help along the way. As a family we are so thrilled to have been part of so many people’s moments, no matter how big or small. We hope when ye reminisce that we will stay in your stories.

“So now we bid you farewell and thanks for the memories.”
