Taoiseach Simon Harris has officially dissolved the Dáil with President Higgins.

Taoiseach Simon Harris has officially dissolved the Dáil after a meeting at Áras an Uachtaráin with President Michael D. Higgins. 

The dissolution of the Dáil clears the way for the General Election to take place on Friday, November 29.

The outgoing Taoiseach stated at a press conference that Ireland is a "great democracy" and that voters are "entitled to good governance and hard work".

He stated that "the time is now right to ask the Irish people to give a new mandate".

The Taoiseach shared his belief that his Government had made 'great progress' and thanked his coalition partners in Fianna Fáil and Green Party.
