Gardaí in Waterford are investigating graffiti sprayed on a wall in Grange Manor estate.

The graffiti included the words 'Kill Shiners' and 'Hang Traitors', alongside a crosshairs symbol. The incident has drawn condemnation from local representatives, including from TD David Cullinane, who called the incident a "sinister development".

Sinn Féin Councillor John Hearne told the Waterford News & Star that while criticism is expected in the run-up to elections, there has been a notable increase in politicians and candidates encountering threatening behaviour.

He cited a recent incident where Deputy Cullinane was verbally harassed in Waterford. A man called him a "traitor" and "scumbag", followed by a racist comment.

Cllr Hearne said: "I never saw it before with the far-right, just complete hate. I pity the pure hate in someone's heart, when someone has that much hate in them, what do they want to do with all that hate?"
