Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of a fatal accident that occurred in a supermarket car park resulting in one person, a man in his 90s, being pronounced deceased at the scene.
The accident occurred at around 11.15am on Friday, October 18, in a car park in Fermoy, in Co Cork.
In a statement issued to Waterford News & Star, a spokesperson for the Gardaí said two people were struck by a car and one of those, the man in his 90s, succumbed to his injuries.
The second person, a woman in her 60s, was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment. Her injuries are believed to be serious. The driver of the car, a man also aged in his 90s, received medical attention at the scene, which is being preserved for technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward. Any pedestrians who were in the environs of Courthouse Road, Fermoy Town, between 10.45am and 11.30am, on Friday, October 18, to come forward.
