Gardaí in Waterford warn of old scam that is seeing a resurgence

An Garda Siochana in Waterford are warning the public of an old scam that is seeing a resurgence.

A statement from Gardaí said, "a caller rings or texts you pretending to be from your bank and tells you there's an issue with your card. They ask for some classified details - DOB, address and PIN number of your card.

"Obligingly they say they will send a taxi to collect the card to save you a trip to the bank.

"This type of scam is used to target our older and more vulnerable citizens. Discuss this with family and friends who might be duped by this and warn them never to divulge personal data and if in doubt contact the bank directly."
