Fundraiser organised to repair vandalised Waterford cricket grounds
The cricket grounds in Gracedieu were hit by vandalism recently, causing thousands of euro in damages.
Vandals targeted the artificial turf at the facility, which is used by local club Waterford Vikings. The incident has rendered the pitch unplayable on as the club approaches the peak of their cricket season.
Representatives from Waterford Vikings commented, “Our beloved cricket pitch at Waterford Vikings Cricket Club has been severely damaged. Your understanding and patience during this time are greatly appreciated."
Gardaí have been investigating the incident.
In the aftermath, the local club created an online fundraiser to help restore and renovate the pitch.
The GoFundMe page says that the local grounds have “been a place for children, adults and everyone in between to come together and share their love for the game".
